My name is Matthew Keenan and I am a second year Sport Industry major with a business minor. I am from Fairfax, Virginia just outside Washington D.C. and have been wanting to go to Ohio State for as long as i can remember. My first and most valuable experience in a leadership position that really shaped me was when i was named captain of my lacrosse team my sophomore year of high school. This was the first time i had really been named the leader of a large group of people. I was always a very shy reserved person so being a vocal leader was not something i was really comfortable with. I felt very uncomfortable and honestly didn't do a great job for the first few weeks. I was so focused on pleasing everyone and forgot to worry about what was important which is keep the team goals first in mind. After i realized that i started to feel more comfortable and started doing a much better job. This impacted the way i acted on and off the field as i just felt a lot more comfortable around people as a whole. I started to be more of a leader in every day life instead of just being a follower for everything. I honestly believe had i not had this opportunity i would be like a turtle in his shell today but thanks to this opportunity i am able to be a much better improvement to society and the world around me.
